Alpine Gate Removal Device

The alpine gate removal device was created as a final project for ME1520, which is a class focused on learning about the technology of alpine skiing.

Problem

Being a member of the alpine ski team was a huge advantage while working on this project because I had firsthand experience with real problems that the ski team faced on a regular basis. The problem that I decided to solve was that ski gates would regularly get stuck in the snow, and would either have to be drilled out or forcefully removed. Drilling out the gate is bad because it damages both the gate and the drill bit, which are both expensive to replace and vital to the team operations. Forcefully removing a gate is also dangerous because one could easily throw out their back doing so.

Solution

Our team aimed to create a device that would attach to a standard drill and forcefully remove a stuck gate without the operator needing to use excessive force.
