TempSense Pan

TempSense Pan

The thermometer embedded in the pan’s handle tells you how hot the cooking surface is. This ensures that your pan is always at the right temperature whether you are simmering, sautéing, or searing.

My Role

My role on this project was to lead the engineering efforts. I collaborated with a team of industrial designers, product developers, lawyers, and marketers to bring the TempSense pan from concept to mass production.

Since I was the only engineer on the team, I had to take the lead on every technical aspect of the project. This included designing and prototyping the pan, selecting materials, and working with a Chinese manufacturer to produce the pan at scale.

As the project progressed, I identified and implemented many opportunities to reduce costs without compromising the pan’s functionality or durability. I also managed the relationship with the manufacturer and ensured that the pans met our quality standards.

The TempSense pan never made it into store shelves, as the project was cancelled right before it hit mass production. Even so, I received two patents for my contributions to the project and gained an immense amount of experience that made the project worth it.

I hand-built this prototype to prove that TempSense could be fully analog

My journey with TempSense began when I cobbled together a working prototype from an existing frypan and various thermometers. This “hacked” prototype was used to show leadership that the TempSense idea was indeed feasible.
