Canine Leg Support Brace

DSC_0046.jpg

During my first year at WPI, I worked as part of a team to design a leg-brace for canines suffering from hip-dysplasia, which is a painful disease that affects many older canines, including my dog Ginger.

Abstract

Older canines tend to suffer from hip dysplasia, a disease of the hip socket that can cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis in the hip joint. Through the design process, we created a prototype to counteract this misalignment. In 7 weeks, we iterated, created, and tested an external brace with a 3D printed hinge mechanism that helps support the weight of a larger (90-100 lbs) and older (7+ years) dog with hip dysplasia.
