OTIS Elevator Test Rig
One of the most worthwhile classes I took during my time at WPI was ME4320, or the advanced engineering design course. The focus of this class was to work in conjunctions with OTIS to aid the elevator brake design MQP team with the completion of their project. The class was split into multiple groups, each in charge of a different part of the project. Our team was in charge of creating the scale model test rig that would be used to drop test the elevator braking system. I took a lead position on this team and created the SolidWorks model and did the FEA analysis on said model. This class was almost like a mini-MQP because the MQP team that we were working with was less helpful than we would have hoped. The original plan was to actually build the entire test rig, but multiple logistical issues paired with the short 7-week timeframe prevented us from doing so. With that said, the communication and documentation skills that I learned in this class are sure to help me in the future.
